post-partum is real

wimbledon winner williams opens up about her brief fears & worries before her daughters arrival. the tennis player who has dealt with her own substantial amount of complex illnesses, has pushed through & prevailed through them all before her childs arrival, so how could it be that, pregnancy brought about her worse fears and a brief stint with post-partaum depression?

the twin tennis player stated "I was nervous about meeting my baby. Throughout my pregnancy, I’d never felt a connection with her,” Williams wrote. “While I loved being pregnant, I didn’t have that amazing Oh my God, this is my baby moment, ever. It’s something people don’t usually talk about, because we’re supposed to be in love from the first second.”

she confirms that, upon having the feeling it was a girl, the love grew. it wasn't instantaneous but a small seed was planted. this is a reality many celebs and influencers are finally admitting to. hopefully the realization & honesty for new mothers allows them to become better mothers to their children, without repeating cycles that hurt and scar. a lot of times, people say, the first step is admitting.

the reality is though that many do not just fall out of post-partaum depression, and that they may need to form a tribe to help them take the best care of their child and make the smartest decisions due to them not having that motherly instinct and connection. when the connection is not there, other issues may form.. jealousy, grief, annoyance, vengeance, regret, and often times without realization, the child feels it.

other celebs who have spoken more openly about dealing with these feelings have been cyn santana, kalenna from L&HH, and a slew of other bigger names, seen here. things to help with the post-partum depression beyond diet, and exercise, would be to talk about it with family, friends so that they can hold you accountable and help you get space when needed but most importantly, to hire a post-partum doula. a doula is not just for the 9 mos before. they come in handy with bonding exercises, positive feedback, on call remedies and leisure resources to aide you with something that is becoming more common.
